Cats and Dogs
Stuck in a traffic Jam somewhere called Yonkers on our way to New Haven, Saturday 13th, 7pm.Running through the rain we got to the venue last night – an anonymous looking industrial building with a blue door in South Philadelphia full of enthusiastic indie kids. Unfortunately we missed the first band Post Post (who we’ve since listened to on CD and they’re ace!). We got straight on stage and set up our gear. Despite continuous electric shocks from the mics and interruptions from a keen audience we enjoyed our set. Rob, our radio plugger, had shown up and helped to hold the broken mic stand in place. Afterwards we hung around and danced to a great DJ set from Herbie, our host in Philly, along with Rob who strutted some super dance grooves. Emma drove us back to Herbie’s where we met Grey Cat (we wuv u Grey Cat) and housemates. Then some well needed sleeps…
We woke up to the same non-stop rain, even heavier than yesterday, and waded through the streets of Philly to a great Irish pub for breakfast with Herbie. Breakfast Burrito, Western Omelette, Vegan French Toast, and lots of ‘Cwar-fee’! Packing up our stuff we loaded up the car to discover that we had a parking ticket, for parking outside a fire hydrant. Crap. We didn’t know that you couldn’t park fire hydrants, being foreigners! – There were no signs and no lines L. To cheer ourselves up we drove to Ben Franklin Broadway to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and paid ten bucks to park outside the ‘Rocky steps’. Dan and Andy then proceeded to venture out of the warm and dry Dodge into the torrential rain to recreate that special moment.
Since we left Philly we’ve been on the road and stopped at a diner for the facilities, a huge bottle of sprite, two bags of chips (fries) and hot chocolate. We’re now been stuck for about an hour, suspected fallen tree (we’ve already passed one, and there is a bad weather warning). Looks like we’re gonna arrive in New Haven real late…
